Après avoir annoncé un accord avec Mayence pour le transfert de Yoshinori Muto, Newcastle a officialisé jeudi la signature de l’attaquant international japonais. Il a paraphé un contrat de quatre ans, soit jusqu’en juin 2022, après avoir reçu son permis de travail, nécessaire pour les non-ressortissants de l’espace Schengen pour s’installer au Royaume-Uni. Auteur de 20 buts en 66 matchs de Bundesliga en trois saisons, Muto est la cinquième recrue estivale de Newcastle, après Martin Dubrvaka, Ki Sung-Yeung, Fabian Schär et Kenedy (prêté par Chelsea).
